We have a vision of establishing a laboratory training school that would train laboratory technologists. Ms. Netty Sinclair has been instrumental in laying the groundwork for the school and we owe her our deepest gratitude. Already, the following have been done towards the realisation of this goal:
- Submission and approval of Laboratory School procedure manual and training Curriculum by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technologists Board (KMLTB).
- Submission of architectural drawings and cost estimates of the project.
- Equipment needed listed and valued.
- Two part-time lecturers identified.
The following issues are still pending and we hope to take action as soon as possible:
- Renovation of MCH clinic, Laboratory and X-ray departments at the old hospital site to create hostels and offices for lecturers is yet to begin.
- Renovation of the old hospital’s pharmacy to create demonstration laboratory.
- Reconstruction of former surgical wards to create two classrooms for 12 students.
- Formation of a Management Board to run the school.
- Training of more health workers
- Further community sensitization aimed at breaking down cultural barriers
- Collaboration and networking with other hospitals, satellite clinics and hospices
