It is designed to accommodate 12 bodies but only nine refrigerated shelves have been installed and are in use.
The hospital is trying to source for funds for the expansion of the facility.
The construction of the mortuary was made possible with generous funds from the Sonnevanck Foundation of the Netherlands and Dr. Greitje Reirtkerk.
The facility is fully utilised by hospital clients and those transferred from other health units that do not have refrigerated facilities. Bodies of those who die in their own homes are also accepted for preservation.
The hospital has been able to generate considerable revenue, which has ensured that the Home sustains itself.
