The Chaplaincy has proved an integral and important part of the hospital and has grown from strength to strength as a reflection of the Body of Christ to the glory of God.

In recognition of God’s sovereignty, one of AIC Litein Hospital’s goals and core values is to foster spiritual well-being of patients in conformity with the hospital’s motto: “whosoever cometh unto me I will in no way cast out”, John 6:37. The hospital puts great emphasis on creating a caring and encouraging atmosphere for all clients who walk through its doors seeking healing and hope.

Our desire is to make AIC Litein Hospital an oasis of hope for any suffering person seeking physical healing and who would otherwise have no hope. All activities at the hospital, including medical, nursing care, community health and clinics, are undertaken with this in mind. We want to share the love and Grace of God with our clients so as to heal not just their bodies, but their souls as well.

To assist in imparting this love of Christ to our clients, the hospital has recruited seven qualified chaplains. One of them is attached to the palliative care and one to psychology.

Role of Chaplains:

1. Proclaim the Gospel of Christ through devotions and prayer sessions.

2. Carry out evangelism activities such as

  • Keep record of ministry through contact with clients who receive Christ while in hospital.
  • Counsel patients at their beds and help them out of their problems.
  • To help staff when they encounter problems and encourage them in their spiritual lives.
  • To encourage, comfort and counsel patients with terminal illnesses.
  • Comfort relatives and care givers when they lose their loved ones.

3. Know the condition of patients by doing ward rounds
4. Counsel out-patient clients
5. Preach to clients and care givers in wards
6. Co-ordinate devotional activities:

  • Departments start the day with brief meetings for devotions- scripture reading and prayer
  • Chaplains lead in joint staff fellowships once a week
  • Chaplains conduct ward devotional meetings, both in the morning and in the evening. Patients sing, read the Bible and pray for good health.

7. Chaplains also lead services in the mortuary when bodies are being removed for burial
